Vienna House will provide 123 units of new affordable housing on the east side of Vancouver later this year. BC Housing chose this project to incorporate innovations in construction to demonstrate technologies that can improve the quality of housing, and provide an example for implementation.
The innovations include
Vienna House is designed to be resilient to future climate concerns and build community among its residents. The units range from studio to 4-bedrooms and will provide homes for families and seniors in a vibrant neighborhood close to transit and parks. It is a BC Housing project on City of Vancouver land that will be operated by More Than a Roof Housing Society.
Our presenter is Kelly Walsh, Senior Researcher and Project Manager with Scius Advisory.
Kelly researches innovative approaches to improving efficiency and sustainability in construction. Her work includes studies on prefabrication, mass timber, circularity and the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) to speed permitting and improve productivity. She has been documenting the innovations being applied on the Vienna House affordable housing project for BC Housing since 2020 and is part of the pathfinder team for Digitally Accelerated Standardized Housing (DASH).
Kelly earned a BSc in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University and an MBA from the University of British Columbia.
