Jessica has worked with non-profit organizations in BC for the past twenty years with the goal to advance clean energy and climate justice. She currently works as the manager of the Buildings team with the Pembina Institute and for the past six years has been an elected city councillor in the City of North Vancouver. She is passionate about advancing climate policy and action within local governments and currently sits on the B.C. Municipal Climate Leaders Council Steering Committee, the Lower Mainland Local Government Association, the Metro Vancouver Indigenous Relations Committee, and the Climate Caucus Board of Directors. Jessica has previously held leadership positions with the B.C. Sustainable Energy Association, the B.C. Women in Energy Network, and Marine Renewables Canada. She holds a B.Sc. in environmental science, an M.Sc. in environmental sustainability, and an MBA. When not working, Jessica takes every opportunity to be in the forest and mountains with her family and two dogs. Whether it is backpacking, biking, skiing or running, she’s always happiest outdoors.
Topic: The Role of Energy End-Use in a Clean & Resilient Future
The global transition to an energy system based on clean generation must be balanced by the modernization and growth of the distributed network and the electrification of energy end-use. Jessica McIlroy will present recent Pembina Institute research and advocacy initiatives on the decarbonization and resilience of the built environment, transportation systems, and the advancement of DSR and DER.
